Today’s post is about a subject near and dear to my heart – books. I LOVE to read, and always have at least one book that I’m currently reading. So, today I’m sharing 10 books I love to read over & over.
I’ve been wanting to write a post about my love of reading ever since I started my blog. Reading is such a big part of my life. I’m one of those people who always has a book with them.
I grew up in a house of readers. My mom and dad were always reading a book while we watched TV in the evenings. My two sisters also love to read. My mom, sisters and I love to share books and talking about what we liked and didn’t like about them.
My sisters and I enjoying an early childhood book club!
I can remember the moment that reading clicked for me. It was in my first grade class during a reading lesson. I remember where I was sitting at the big round classroom table, and the book we were reading. A Dick & Jane book, of course! Anyone else remember the Dick & Jane books? Loved them!
Here’s a picture of me reading a book for homework to my mom in first grade. The best kind of homework! My sister is listening in.
When I find a book that I really love, I will read it more than once. Usually, I like the book even better the second or third time I read it!
It was hard to narrow down my list of favorites, but I’ve come up with a list of 10 books that I love to read over and over. Meaning I’ve read each of them at least 3 times. A few of the books are one book in a series, and I’ve read each of these series over and over too.
I was surprised how hard it was to write just a short blurb about each of these books. I didn’t want to give away too much of the storyline. It was also hard to express adequately how much and why I love each of these books.

Author: Dean Koontz
This is my favorite book written by one of my favorite authors! It’s the story of Einstein, a golden retriever, who’s DNA has been altered in a lab. He may be a dog, but he thinks and acts like a human being. If you’re a dog lover, your especially going to love this book!
Einstein meets Travis, and together they meet Nora. Some of the best parts of the book are when Travis and Nora discover that Einstein is not a normal dog, and they figure out a way to communicate with him.
Author: Laura Ingalls Wilder
I’m sure most of you know of the Little House On The Prairie books. They’re written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and tell the stories of her childhood traveling across the mid-west in the 1800’s.
One Christmas when I was 11 or 12, my mom and dad gave me the whole set of Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I was thrilled to have all the whole set of books, and still have them today. I’ve read them many times, and still love them.
Author: Kate Morton
This is a wonderful story that travels back and forth between the present and the past. The beginning of the book starts in the early 1900’s with a little girl who arrives by ship to Australia by herself with only a suitcase. She doesn’t know or doesn’t tell her name or where she came from. She is taken home by one of the men who works on the docks and is adopted by him and his family.
When she is grown, she discovers that she has been adopted and tries to find out where she came from. After her death, her grand daughter takes up the search. A great story!
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
My sisters and I love to read books about time travel, so this is one of our favorites. I think one of the things I love about time travel books is seeing how going back in time can change things in the future.
This book is about time travel, but it’s also a wonderful love story. It’s about a man who time travels, but not by his own design. He never knows when it’s going to happen. He meets a little girl during one of his time traveling episodes, and she eventually becomes his wife. I love seeing them at different stages in their lives – sometimes they’re the same age, and sometimes he is a grown up and she is a child.
Author: Tracey Garvis Graves
I’ve always been a fan of stories about people living and surviving on deserted islands. I love the Tom Hanks movie, Castaway, and even loved watching Gilligan’s Island when I was young.
This is the story of a young woman and a teenage boy who have to live on a deserted island after the pilot of their plane has a heart attack and the plane crashes in the sea. They make it to an uninhabited island, and have to learn how to survive when no one comes to rescue them.
Author: J. K. Rowling
I’m sure this book series doesn’t need much introduction. I’ve read the whole Harry Potter series, but this first book is my favorite. When Harry discovers that he’s really a wizard, and gets the opportunity to go to school at Hogwarts is one of my favorite parts of any of the Harry Potter books!
Author: Janet Evanovich
This is the first of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum numbered series. I’ve read all of this series, and have ready many of them over and over. Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter who gets into all kinds of mishaps while doing her job. These books have me laughing out loud!
Author: Charles Dickinson
This may be a book you’ve never heard of. My sisters and I love this book because it’s another great story about time travel. It’s set in a small town in Illinois that has sidewalks behind some of the houses. One of the families who live in this town discover that they can travel in time by using these sidewalks. Again, I love seeing how traveling back in time can cause things to change in the future. A great book!
Author: Sue Grafton
The first of Sue Grafton’s alphabet series, this book is the beginning of the Kinsey Millhone series. Kinsey is a private detective, who is very independent and can be very funny too. These books can make me laugh out loud! Another great series of books!
Author: Cheryl Strayed
Wild is written by Cheryl Strayed, and is her own story about how she walked from California to Washington state on the Pacific Crest Trail. By herself. During her walk, she starts healing her soul and growing as a person. An amazing story. I think the book is very good, but I would skip watching the movie…
I hope you enjoyed this list of some of my favorite books!
