Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and I wanted to share with you a gift my sisters and I (along with our families) made for our mom a few years ago. It’s a memory box filled with 365 memories – one for each day of the year.
We didn’t think of this idea ourselves, my husband’s cousins made one for their mom a few years ago. She loved it so much that my sister-in-law got us all to make one for my mother-in-law. Then my sisters and I made one for our mom. Everyone loves them.
The idea is for Mom to read one memory from the box every day for a year. Now, you can write out as many memories as you’d like, it doesn’t have to be 365. Of course, Mom can read them however she wants to, whether it’s one a day, or all at once.
We love to get together with Mom and read the memories together. It always sparks more memories, and soon we’re laughing about things that happened years ago. It’s funny to hear what my sisters remember about our childhood, that I’ve completely forgotten about, and to hear the memories that the grandkids have of Grandma.
It’s a very simple gift to make. You, of course, need everyone in the family to write down their memories of mom or grandma. Once you get going, it’s pretty easy to think of lots of memories.
When we did our memory box, we typed up all of the memories, and printed them out on a heavy paper. After they are printed out, we then cut out each memory separately so they can be read one at a time.
It’s nice to put the slips of paper in a decorative box, so that they can easily be read each day, or whenever the mood strikes.
I love that this is a one of a kind gift that doesn’t cost a lot of money, (just takes a little time), and that it’s something special that Mom will always treasure.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful moms and grandmas!
