Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White is the color we painted quite a few of the rooms in our home during our renovation – including the entry, living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway, guest bedroom and master bedroom. Today, I’m going to share why Ballet White is such a great paint color to use if you want a neutral color for your walls.
Benjamin Moore’s Ballet White
Despite it’s name, Ballet White is not really a white color. It is a very light cream color that has yellow in it, but also brown and gray. It will change colors during the day as the natural light changes.
When it’s a sunny day, more of the yellow tones will show up.
On a cloudy day, it will show more of it’s gray tones.
Why do I think that Ballet White is the perfect neutral paint color?
When I was picking paint colors for our home, I wanted a very light, neutral, paint color that would look good on it’s own. The paint color also needed to allow the bright colors in the room to pop.
That’s why Ballet White is such a great neutral paint color – it looks good with any other colors. Whether it’s day or night, sunny or cloudy, it ALWAYS looks good!
I didn’t want a paint color that had a lot of gray in it. I like gray, but I think gray walls can look very cold. I wanted a paint color with a little more warmth to it, but not too yellow.
Ballet White looks great in a hallway too.
It also looks good with the pinks and white that I used in our guest bedroom. (Also known as our granddaughter’s room.)
This is Ballet White on our hall bathroom walls. There’s no natural light in this bathroom, but the walls still look good with light from the light fixtures.
So, if you want a good neutral paint color for your walls, that will go with everything and always look great, I highly recommend Ballet White!
Do you have a favorite paint color? Tell us what it is!
I’m sharing here:
What color of white did you use for your trim?
Our trim white color is Benjamin Moore’s White. It’s their base color – White.
This color reminds me of Coffee in my Creamer by Valspar. I have it in my kitchen and office and I love it. It can read slightly gray at certain times of the day like you mentioned. I might actually give this Benjamin Moore color a try in a couple of my bedrooms.
Lisa, Coffee in my Creamer sounds like the same color! Good luck with you bedrooms!
The colors in the all the rooms look gorgeous!! Do you know of an equivalent in. Sherwin Williams paint? Same question for the BM White color?
I fell in love with Ballet White but lost my nerve at the last minute and chose Benjamin Moore Feather Down with Satin Impervo Cloud White trim. I absolutely love the combination. I still sometimes secretly wish I had been braver and gone with Ballet White. My trim is all Cloud White and I have no intention of redoing that. Do you think Ballet White would work with Cloud White trim? I’m thinking of repainting one large sunny family room with Ballet White !
Maggie, I think it would work. If you can get a little sample of Ballet White, paint a patch of it next to your trim. Or even better, paint a big piece of poster board and place it next to the trim.
that color looks fabulous in your home. Next time around I would like to try it. I do love yellow so I used Summer Harvest in most of my rooms. It is definitely yellow and sunny but it works so well with all of my furniture.
Thanks for sharing!
My new favorite paint color is Pale Oak. I would consider it a taupe color that reads more on the gray side. On another note, I have a coverlet on my bed which I would consider a dark golden color. I wanted a very pale color that would go with the gold (ie no gray) on my walls and every time I end up with yellow. Any suggestions?
I don’t have any suggestions other than to go to the paint store and bring some paint chips home to see what would go best in your bedroom.
I love this colour too! I painted our main bathroom, hallway, front and back entrance and son’s bedroom with Ballet White. It looks fantastic in all of these spaces (all on the west/north side of our home).
I have Ben Moore’s Stone Hearth in my east/south facing open plan living, dining, and kitchen and am debating whether I should lighten up the walls with Ballet White. Any thoughts on how yellow it might look in east facing rooms with large windows? What light direction are you working with? I’ve painted a large swatch on paper and have been moving it around. Painting decisions can be so tough sometimes can’t they?
Shell, as I explain in the post, Ballet White will look a bit yellower when it’s in a sunny room. The pictures I’m showing are of our dining room which has 2 big windows on the east side of the house and a large patio door on the south side of the house.
My wife and I are going to use Ballet White as the wall color throughout most of our new house with Simply White as the trim color. Do you have a recommendation for a ceiling color that would be darker than Simply White but lighter than Ballet White? Thanks!
Dan, sorry I don’t.
White dove?
Hi I am trying to decide on new color to replace Ben Moore Pittsfield Buff. its for a west facing room with 1 window…would you recomend Edgecomb Gray or ballet White. also having the entertainment center painted/refinished…Simply white??? thankyou !
Angela, I would do a sample of both colors on pieces of foam board. Look at them at different times of day.
Hi Jann,
Love your house. How would ballet white do in a north-northeast library with oak trim and oak built-ins. Denver sun comes in only before noon. would love your take.
Thank you
Marta
My only advice would be to try it and see if you like it.
I am about to paint my living room Ballet White, so thanks for the pictures, it looks lovely in your home.
The vanity in your bathroom caught my eye, what colour is it? We have an old
church pew we painted years ago and it needs a refresh, and I think that blue
would work.
Many thanks.
Holly, sorry, I don’t remember the name of the paint. It’s been a couple of years, I still love it though!
My walls are a creme color, which I really like, but my cabinets are the fake wood manufacturers cabinets, my questions is, do you think the Ballet White would work for painting kitchen cabinets . Really do like the color: Ballet White. Thank you,
Carlotta, I would do a test first to see if you like the color. Paint a piece of foam board that you can get in a craft store in the ballet white and then put it up against your cabinets. Look at it in all lighting situations – daylight and at night. Good luck!
Did you find any lavender or pink tones in “Ballet white “ ?
No
I have bought 3 paint samples and at least 4 sample patches of gray — light gray for our new build. I do not like white trim however. Now that I see this Ballet White, can you recommend a gray color for the trim. I have heard revere pewter with edgecomb gray as trim works ok. I am wondering what might go well with Ballet White using a different tone for trim besides white. THANKS
Karen, sorry, no I can’t recommend a color for the trim. Our trim is white. I would buy samples for the trim too.
I am now thinking of doing the walls neutral and the trim a light gray. Thanks for replying
I think I have Pale Oak on my walls but it reads very gray on most of my walls. I want a creamier white so will sample Ballet White but I don’t want a lot of gray to show as the light changes on the main floor. Does this colour ever read gray on north facing walls?
Very slight gray. I would buy a sample (if you can) and paint some sample boards to put in different areas of your room. Good luck!
I bought ballet white and had it lightened 25%. Im think I g if simply white for trim and ceilings. Do you think the ceiling should be more white?
It’s really not possible for me to say, since I can’t see the room. It’s really a personal preference.
Jan, I would have never found this color until I came upon your post. Thank you so much I absolutely love this color. Im putting it in my dining room and both living areas! Its perfect!
Sandy
I am leaning towards Ballet White as my floors are a reddish paprika, not easy to compliment. So a friend told me about ballet white. Just hope i dont see too much yellow. The living area faces west.
Sandra
I did the same thing with BM “Winds Breath” all thru my house with white woodwork. I love the freshness of it. Your “Ballet White” is beautiful too!
Hi! I recently got Ballet white from Sherwin Williams.. they matched it.
Unfortunately.. it looks different than my samples. It’s showing more yellow than my samples did.
Do you know the formula they should have used? I’m thinking of just going to the hardware store that sells Benjamin Moore and calling the other gallon a loss.
I have read to not have other paint companies match.. have you had this problem before?
I would go to a good paint store in your area that sells Benjamin Moore paint and buy another gallon.
Great post, thank you so much. Do you think Ballet White walls would coordinate with Swiss Coffee cabinets?
Thank you
I would get sample paint chips of each.
