Today, I’m sharing a little about my Custom Bedding – Decorative Shams And Bolsters class that Craftsy just launched. In this class I teach how to make three different types of bedding pillows – a Euro sham, a flanged sham, and a bolster pillow. The pillow we’re going to talk about today is the last pillow in the class – the Bolster Pillow.
If you’d like to read more about the class, the different pillows, and the filming process, here are a few more posts:
If you’re not familiar with Craftsy, they’re a wonderful on-line teaching platform for people like us who love to create. They offer tons of classes in dozens of topics – sewing, crocheting, photography, cooking, cake decorating and many more!
What’s great about taking one of Craftsy’s on-line classes is that the class is yours forever. You can watch it whenever, wherever, and as many times as you like. You can also ask questions of the instructors and they will answer very quickly. It’s a really great company!
I’ve been a Craftsy lover for a while now, so I was thrilled when they contacted me a few months ago about teaching a class. I love pillows, so teaching this bedding class was very fun for me!
The third pillow that I teach in the class is a bolster pillow. It’s a long cylinder shaped pillow that looks great on a bed in front of other shams. It can look kind of intimidating to make, but it’s really not too hard to make.
We used two different fabrics for this pillow, and I love how it turned out. The small geometric print is featured in the center of the pillow and on the cording and buttons on each end. Green textured fabric complements the geometric for the other ares of the pillow.
In the lessons for the bolster pillow, I teach:
- How to make the pillow form for this type of pillow, and how to cute the different pieces of fabric.
- You’ll learn how to make the cording in an earlier class lesson, so that you can then apply what you’ve learned to make the cording for the bolster pillow.
- I’ll show you how to make the covered button and tuft it. Tufting, or pulling in the button, is the hardest part of this kind of pillow.
- Another tricky part of making the bolster pillow is inserting the zipper, but I’ll show you step-by-step how to do it easily. Craftsy does a great job of filming the classes so that you can easily see each step of a lesson.
So, if you’ve been a little intimidated by the bolster pillow before, this class will show you how to easily make this fun pillow!
