Welcome to another Window Wednesday! Today I’m going to share with you a fun valance that I did for a client’s teenage daughter.
Here’s a before picture of the window. My client had already purchased the bedding for the room, and had the walls painted. She wanted to update the window with new blinds and a valance. You can’t see it in this picture, but the wall on the left side of the room was painted in a great pear color that matched one of the greens in the bedding.
Sometimes it’s hard to find fabric to go with an existing paint color, but luckily I found a great fabric to go with the green accent wall and the bedding. You can read more about this concept in my post Pick Paint Colors First Or Fabric First. The pear and cream colors in the fun geometric print tied the two wall colors and the bedding together.
The soft cornice is shaped at the bottom to mimic the geometric lines in the fabric. We also replaced the outdated mini blinds with 2″ wood blinds.
My client and her daughter were very excited about the updates we made to the window, and I love how it turned out too.
I’m partying here!
Hi Jann,
I am taking some classes on Craftsy but there is no class for soft cornices. I really like the pear colored cornice on your website. I would like to make one like that for my son’s room. His window looks a lot like the one in the teen’s room. Could you tell me what the cornice is made of. Can you tell me where I could find instructions for this cornice?
Thanks for visiting my site Adrienne! How to make a soft cornice is on my list of tutorials to do.
