It’s time for another installment of our renovated kitchen reveal! Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite things that we changed in our new kitchen – the kitchen stools makeover. They have a whole new look!
Be sure to check out our How To Paint Furniture page for more great painting ideas, tips and techniques!
Before our kitchen renovation, our three stools were your standard orange oak. They pretty much blended in with the oak on the peninsula.
We’ve had the stools for almost 20 years. They’ve gotten a lot of use over the years. Our kids used them every day when they were still at home, and now our grandkids use them every time they come to visit. My husband and I still use them a lot too.
The stools are still in good shape. They’re very sturdy. I bought them from a furniture store in our area that sells oak furniture made by Amish woodworkers, and they were very well made. I still love the shape of the stools – just not very fond of the orange oak. So, we decided to paint them instead of replacing them.
I was going to do the painting myself, but by the time I got around to it last fall, I was pretty burnt out from months of painting! I did start to prime them, but decided mid-way through to have someone spray paint them instead.
I asked my painter, who spray painted our oak kitchen cabinets, if he would paint them. But, he suggested that I take them to a wood-working shop here in town that sprays furniture with a lacquer paint, which he said would be a very durable paint for the stools.
So, that’s what I did. I took in a paint sample of my green paint, and they matched it in a lacquer paint.
I love how they turned out! They look great with our roman valance and other touches of green in the kitchen.
I still love walking into the kitchen and seeing the cheerful stools!
The lacquer paint has held up really well. We’ve been using the painted stools for a few months now, and they still look great.
You can still see the grain of the oak wood, but I don’t mind that at all. It adds a little extra character to the stools!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at our kitchen stools makeover!
