I’m excited to share the reveal of the smallest room in our house – the laundry room. It’s also the only room in our house that is 100% done. Even our new white kitchen is still getting some tweaking with accessories. It’s even kind of fun to open the laundry room doors now!
Laundry Room Reveal
Like I said before, this room is REALLY small. It’s 59″ wide and 55″ deep. It’s off a small hallway that leads from our kitchen to the living room, and is closed off with a set of double doors. Right across the hallway from the laundry room is the pantry closet.
Here’s what our laundry room looked like before our renovation. Pretty blah. Boring builders paint, one lonely shelf and flooring from the 90’s. (Which is when we had the house built!)
During our whole house renovation, I shared a post about the laundry room after I painted it. I wasn’t happy with the color then, and was thinking about changing it. It kind of grew on me though, and now I love the green color on the walls. It’s Pittsburgh Paints Fern Glow. Here’s a picture of what the laundry room looked like during the renovation.
You’ll also notice that the on wall above the washer and dryer we added cabinets. You can learn more in my organizing the laundry room post. They were the most expensive thing that we did to the laundry room, even though we opted for very inexpensive cabinets. Well worth it for the added storage space!
Here’s what the laundry room looks like now.
I filled in the space above the washer and dryer with a shelf that I found at our local Habitat For Humanities store.
It has a nice carved front and side edges. It just needed a couple of coats of white paint.
It came with brackets, but I took them off and used L brackets to support the shelf. The shelf is velcroed to the L brackets so that we can easily remove it if we need to.
I love how the shelf hides the ugly outlets.
I made the sign – The Laundry Room Loads Of Fun sign. You can find the decal here. (Affiliate link.) It was very easy to do.
Update – I have written a post about how to make this sign – it’s a step-by-step tutorial that explains how to use vinyl letters to make a sign.
It was hard to get good pictures of this room because it is so small. So, it’s hard to tell in the front view of the room, but I added a picture to each side wall of my grand kids. They make me smile whenever I open the laundry room doors!
We also changed out the flooring to vinyl floor tiles. I decided not to continue the hardwood floors into the laundry room, so we used vinyl floor tiles that complement the wood floors. They’re easy to clean, and I don’t have to worry as much about water damage if the washing machine leaks.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this reveal of our renovated laundry room!

the laundry room looks great.. love the color.
Thanks Hena! I love the color too.
I love it Jann!
Thanks Ruth!
It looks great! But I just wonder where you keep your ironing board and laundry basket? On the back of the doors?
Thanks Melanie! The laundry basket goes in front of the dryer. I have a drapery business in our basement, and I iron our clothes down there. You could hang an ironing board on the back of the door though.
Wow this took me back to our previous home where we had a closet laundry room like this. I only lived there 2 years so I didn’t get a chance to tweak it but we did have the cupboards above like you have now. I like that shelf mounted just above the appliances. The color is great- gives you a nice cheerful feeling. My mom has that exact washer and dryer set! They’ve held up well! I see the comment before me about where to put things like an ironing board. I simply had that in another closet not far away. It’s a small room but much nicer to have than going to the basement like I do now. You have to be efficient on doing the laundry and putting it away but that’s a good thing- right? Visiting from BNOTP
Thanks Liz! I love this washer and dryer! We thought about replacing them during the renovation, but they are still running great after almost 20 years.
Where did you purchase your cabinets from?
Kristin, we purchased our cabinets from a locally owned kitchen store.
Beautiful laundry room – I have been wanting to do mine for a long time now. Yours is almost exactly what i want. Unfortunately i can’t have cabinets all the way across the wall because that is also the area where our stairs to our attic are and when you pull them down they would hit the cabinets if I went all the way across.
But I do love yours very much. Do you know the maker/name/color of your floor tiles? I love them.
Congratulations on a great job…makes doing laundry a little more fun.
Love the shelf, exactly what I want to do with my small laundry closet. I have painted, added the cabinets and the finishing touch will be the shelf. Thanks for posting!
Jackie, I think you’ll love adding the shelf. Good luck with your project!
I would like to know how tall your cabinets are? I have room for 42″ ?
Becky, my cabinets are 36″. Good luck with your project!
