Last week Pantone announced it’s 2015 color of the year – Marsala.
I have to be honest, I’m not really a fan. It feels very old-fashioned to me. It’s almost a burgandy, but has a bit more brown in it. Someone else mentioned that it’s great as a nail polish, and that I can see.
So, what do all of you think? Yay or nay to Pantone’s newest color of the year?
I had heard several months ago that one of the color trends was going towards burgundy & mauve again, but toned down; more sophisticated. I do like this color.
I agree with you. Not a fan of this color at all. Doesn’t do anything for me, uninspiring. I can see it being used in upholstery but not in fashion.
Takes me back to the 80’s. A lot of us slow pokes just got rid of this color!
Peggy, yes, time flies, it doesn’t seen that long ago does it?
I, too, don’t like this color! Had same reaction when I first saw it on a web site. All I can think of is mauve & colonial blue….ugh! So I guess our “job” is to figure out what colors would look “new” with it. Any ideas?
Frances, I don’t have any ideas. Leaves me very uninspired! I did see it paired with a bright orange for a dress, but it wasn’t my favorite.
I think grey could make this color look new. I have to say at first I did not care for GREY at the “new neutral”, but it is starting to grow on me. I think grey would update this color.
I wonder if the younger generation will like this color. Most of them will not remember the 80’s mauve/blue and green/peach colors. They were just babies! As for me—I am going to stay with the warm fall colors. I like them and they make me happy!
Hi Jeanette! Yes, I can see this color with grey. You’re right, the younger crowd might not think of it as an old fashioned color.
Jann, one word: DRAB. Now this is REALLY dating myself but I remember my mother wearing this color in several of her church suits back in the 1950s. I’ve never cared for this color period and most likely avoid making or purchasing any garment in this color. Yes, shades gray would be a good accent color as well as jet black.
Mom is that you? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lilli-Ann-Vintage-Velvet-Suit-Size-S-Two-skirts-NWT-/251748403761?pt=Vintage_Women_s_Clothing&hash=item3a9d5fca31
I wasn’t a big fan of it at first. I didn’t hate it, I just didn’t feel great about it. But it’s grown on me. I’d definitely try it out if painting my apartment walls dark was a good idea, LOL. It goes best with bohemian decor, IMO.
