I love a good before and after, and I’ve got one for you today! Recently, I was asked to help a client update the new home she and her husband had recently moved into. We’re re-doing the windows one room and a time, and today I’m sharing her Master Bedroom Before & After.
Be sure to check out our Decorating With Window Treatments page for more ideas, tips and techniques for your windows!
This makeover was for a client who is also a relation-in-law and dear friend. I made window treatments for their former house, and was thrilled to be able to make them for the new house too.
Here’s what their master bedroom window looked like when they moved in. The master bedroom is huge, and the windows in the room are in a nice little alcove. The windows are very nice, and the window treatments just needed an update. They have a blind at the window, which we kept.
Here’s the updated window treatments. This picture is kind of dark, so it’s not showing the color of the walls and the fabrics very well. The walls are a very nice blue color, which matches the embroidered stitching in the drapery fabric.
I love the look of drapery panels over a faux roman valance. The drapery fabric is a nice taupe and blue embroidered linen, and the blue color is repeated in the valance fabric. The valance helps to cover the headrail of the blind, and adds a nice second layer to the window treatments.
We were able to re-use the drapery pole from my client’s old dining room window. We just added new finials that are shorter, so that they would fit into between the alcove walls.
My client and I were both happy with how the window treatments turned out, they’re a nice update for her master bedroom.
I’m joining these parties!
Hi Jann! These turned the room into something of her own and so lovely to relax in. Beautiful fabrics always make me want to linger!! Miss you, and so proud you are sharing your expertise!
Thanks JoEllen! They are really nicer in person than in my bad photos!
Beautiful Jann! What a difference! So much lighter and brighter!
Thanks Laura!
What an improvement, Jann! I love the look of panels over roman shade, faux or working. Layering makes things look so luxurious. The panel fabric is beautiful, too! I look forward to more windows you make new for her.
Thanks Kim!
Hi Jann,
Do you have instructions for the faux Roman valence? I started my master bathroom valence using the roman shade class at craftsy but I’m not sure that is what I am after. I just wanted a stationary valence with horizontal pleats on a 1×2 board. I guess a faux hobbled? With a finished length of about 28 inches. My craftsy roman valence with dowel pockets ended up being too short and I will need to start again. UGH!
Adrienne, it’s on my list to start doing some valance tutorials. I don’t have a tutorial for a faux roman yet.
