You all know that I love fabrics and window treatments, so I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise that one of my favorite parts of our white kitchen renovation is the roman shade valance that I made for the window over the sink!
Roman Shade Valance
We did a major renovation of our home a couple of years ago. Here’s what the kitchen looked like before our renovation. It was so dark and there was so much orange oak! The window looks bare and unfinished with no window treatment.
Our kitchen looks so much better now, light and bright. I love the pop of color from the valance fabric!
Because we have a lot of white in our kitchen now, I wanted to be sure to add some color with the fabric I picked for the window valance.
I love all of the colors in the fabric I picked. It’s been a jumping off point for the other colors and fabrics for our kitchen, dining area and living room. It’s a P Kaufman fabric – Suzani Aquamarine. I love most of (affiliate link) P Kaufman fabrics, but this is my favorite!
Here are the other fabrics we’re using in these main living areas. The three rooms (kitchen, dining area and living room) are somewhat open to each other, so I tried to make sure they flowed together by using the same fabrics and wall color in each room.
I made a roman shade valance for the window. It looks like a real roman shade, but it doesn’t open and close. I love this kind of window treatment – so clean and tailored.
I made the same type of roman shade valance for our living room, and I’ll be sharing a tutorial for how I made them soon. Here’s a sneak peak of one of the valances in the living room. More of the living room reveal coming soon!
I hope you enjoyed this look at the roman shade valance I made for our kitchen!

Love that fabric! Would love to “get rid of” my orange–which I wanted when we renovated the kitchen 14 years ago. How I wish I had gone with a lighter color, but I stoopidly was trying to “flow” with the oak paneling in the den!
Thanks Shelor! I feel your pain! It’s so hard to get everything to flow without changing the whole house!
Oh my, your kitchen looks beautiful! I love all the pops of green, and I love using blue and green together. Your fabric choices are gorgeous. You have done a wonderful job!!!
Thanks Shannon! I love blue and green together too.
Love the kitchen Roman shade. I’d like to create one for mine. We just moved. I went to CHF Academy few yrs ago. For drapery and bedding. Getting back into it. What is the latest hardware for Roman shades operable? Appreciate your help. Judy Sherman
Thanks Judy!
